It was my first time attending New York Comic Con and it sure was an experience. I felt like it was Halloween in the middle of October. The Jacob Javits was packed with people from all walks of life dress in various costumes from Marvel/DC characters to Cosplays.
Some of the costumes were amazing. There was Master Chief, Borderlands Character and tons of Guardians of Galaxy. Even saw the Real Peter Griffin, some of the KA characters
There were also personalities that were present such as Kevin Smith, Stephen Amell (Aarow), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Lucy Lawless (Xena), Jen and Sylvia Soska, Michiteru Okabe (Resident Evil Revelations) and the cast of Daredevil - Vincent D'Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll and Charlie Cox.
There were tons of collectible exhibits as well as exclusives. There was a large amount of Robotech exhibit as well as Voltron. I cannot wait to get my hands on Robotech Super Deformed Blind Boxes. They are being released before the 30th Anniversary of Robotech next year.
Also on hand was the Batman 70th Anniversary exhibit which showcase the various batman suits worn during the last few batman films. And USPS released the Batman stamps and first day covers as well.
Tips for Newbies (like me):
- Get there early especially if you want to go to certain panels that are quite popular. This year's biggest panel was The Walking Dead. The panel was at 3pm but it was already full when I got there by 11 am. If I only knew ahead of time, I would have gone and lined up closer to the opening time (10 am)
- Wear comfortable shoes. If you aren't dressing up, make sure to wear comfortable shoes since you will be doing a lot of walking unless all you want to do is go to the panels.
- Get ready for the crowd. I went on a Saturday and it was packed! There are aisles where you cannot practically go through because of foot traffic as well as people who are checking out the booths including those in line to grab autographs or comic-con exclusive. And with that last line.
- Get there early (again). If you want to grab one of those Comic Con Exclusive, be there early since they are usually limited for the day. I remember going to the Loot Crate booth and wanting to grab one of the exclusive NYCC lootbox only to be turned away and told to come back the next day. That only works if I was going to be back next day. Same thing happen an Toy Tokyo. So if you are into collectibles and want those exclusive. Be.There.Early.
- Be courteous and polite. There are tons of people who dressed up for the event and if you want to take their picture, just ask and most would gladly pose for you. If they said no, don't force them - NYCC has a sexual harassment policy and you have to abide by it.
Cannot wait for next year!
